Keep your Heart Healthy

Know your cholesterol levels and blood pressure.
• Exercise regularly.
• Maintain a healthy weight.
• Eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day and limit fatty, sugary foods and drinks.

If you have a regular medical care provider, you can make an appointment for a check-up and be sure to ask to have your cholesterol and blood pressure checked.

If you do not have a regular medical care provider, call 311 for free or low cost services near you.

For information about fitness:

  • Make some amount of physical activity part of your routine (see suggestions above).
  • Check with the Department of Parks and Recreation for free or low cost fitness programs near your home.  They have a number of available activities, from basketball and baseball to volleyball and horseback riding.  They also have indoor facilities across the five boroughs that offer exercise equipment and fitness classes.
