What is a National Convention?

National Conventions are held for two reasons: to nominate a candidate for President and Vice President, and to forge a platform the party wants to run on for the election. Delegates and alternates come from each state to represent the party in their state. They also excite the base about the election and get their candidates heard. Both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions are paid great attention by the citizens of the United States because they give people the opportunity to get to know the candidates and what they stand for.
